Starting off the book Billion-Dollar Fish by Kevin Bailey my first impression is wow the pollock fishery is doing surprisingly well for how widespread it is. The autor describes how the pollock fishery is often described as the ‘poster child’ of fishery management. This is primarily due to the age of the fishery overall. The pollock fishery is very new compared to the long history of the Atlantic cod fishery. Though people have been long tied to and dependent on cod, the popularity of pollock had become comparable to what cod once had. The demand for seafood has risen and pollock has been able to provide due to proper management and response to needs of the population. This has led to a rapidly growing billion dollar industry. In many ways cod and pollock have similar biological characteristics and behaviors, of which is large schooling tendencies, and wide dispersal movement patterns.
